2 Week Check-up

Everyone always told me that Cael was a tubster - I can't imagine what they think of Finn. Cael's check-ups always found him in the lower percentiles (even as low as 10th in weight) and he got heckled for being a future football player.

Finn's results: 95th for height, 90th for weight and 80th for head. The nurse says he's the longest 2 week old she's ever seen.

If Cael was a football player, Finn is Andre the Giant.

The Red Cheek

Cael has a telltale sign of tiredness - the red cheek. The right side of his face flairs up like a fire-engine when he gets too tired. Once the red cheek has appeared, you've let it go too far and getting him to actually go down for a nap is like trying to get me to go to the gym: It involves a lot of kicking and screaming, usually tears, and is wildly unsuccessful.

The only thing worse than attempting to get Cael down for a nap after the red cheek has appeared is trying to get him down for a nap after the red cheek has appeared and he's fallen asleep in the car. There is no way to transition him from his seat into the house without waking him up (Finn will sleep through a parade, but Cael won't sleep through the doorknob turning) and once he's dozed off even for a second there is zero chance of getting him back down.

So today Cael has not slept more than 5 minutes (all of them in the car) and it is now 5 o'clock. He's running around the house without pants, yelling, causing a general ruckas, and completely wiping out and falling on his face every tenth step.

Beware the red cheek!

Oy with the poodles

Cael's favorite food is currently applesauce. Cael's word for his favorite food? Ass. And he likes to chant it loudly and enthusiastically.

Cousin Nora visits!

These three are going to have some wild times together in the future. And you just know the boys are going to torture little Nora's boyfriends. The poor suckers will never see it coming.

(Cael = 22 months, Nora = 6 months, Finn = 4 days)

2/11/10

Finn Harrison has arrived!

Feb. 11, 2010
9 lbs 3 oz
21 1/4"

Apparently my womb is a highly enjoyable habitat. This little (I use that term loosely) guy opted not to come out on his own and had to be induced.

We arrived at the hospital at 7 in the morning and were all strapped up and ready to rock by 8. Not much excitement until 11 when my water broke - on it's own this time. Immediately following that lovely experience the contractions came in full force. The pain went from zero to HOLY CRAP. Our (awesome) nurse set us up with the anesthesiologist right away. Unfortunately, as the man with the drugs was heading our direction the woman next door decided (spitefully, of course) that she needed an emergency c-section and my anesthesiologist right away. (If it weren't for the blood-curdling screams of pain and suffering coming from her direction, I would hold it against her.)

By the time the anesthesiologist was relieved and came to hook me up, it was after noon. Finn made his entrance at 12:53. This little time crunch meant that the epidural didn't actually kick in. So, in case anyone is taking a poll - labor with the good drugs = WAY BETTER than labor without. Last time there was laughing and cracking jokes. This time there was crying, screaming, grunting and more crying.

And possibly more crying.

For Skip!

A photo of Cael and the belly. Yes, I know my head is cut off. Turns out Cael's not incredibly patient with me figuring out the placement and timing of the camera and my arm's not long enough for the self-clicked portrait. You should see the rejects =)

T minus four days and counting...
